This article from the National Academy of Dentistry talks about the risks of airborne pathogens in the dental office. This fact is not new, we are fully aware of the round the clock high aerosol environment in our dental office . There's just not too much more we can do about it. The article concludes on the point that all we can really do is minimize our risk for exposure with certain practices of caution.
"The aerosols and splatter produced during dental procedures have the potential to spread infection to dental personnel and other people in dental office. It is difficult to completely eliminate the risk posed by dental aerosols; it is possible to minimize the risk with relatively simple and inexpensive precautions like personal barrier protection, preprocedural mouth rinse with an antimicrobial mouth rinse before treatment, use of high volume suction apparatus and use of rubber dam where applicable. "
However, now, in addition to these standard measures for risk minimization, we can have further risk control with the diffusion of essential oils. Essential oils have the ability to leave your air cleaner and less contaminated by microbes! With even very diluted solutions essential oils have been proven to limit the growth of airborne microbes. Read about it here in This research article published with Pub Med/NCBI.
What a service to provide for our patients and employees! Especially those who may be immunocompromised. This could be a very appreciated service!
